How long should I expect it to take me if I do everything for my car, rather than having it installed in a store?

Putting in your own car audio can take a significant amount of time. Researching is a main part of it and after that alot of trial and error until you're done. That's the thing with the shops, since they've done it a number of times there is no researching or trial and error needed, usually.

First decide exactly what you want, i.e, CD player/MP3 player, casette player etc.

Once you have decided what you want then, look at where you will buy it.

If it's a store go ask if they know of any problems in fitting in your car. Or even better post a question here Very Happy

Once you have the kit that you want and are ready to fit it then buy plenty of fuses, don't ask why I know this Embarassed

Generally speaking, most people know someone who has installed a stereo in their car. If you fall into this category, go ask that person to help you. It will really save you a lot of time and effort. Typically, those that have done their own car will be more than helpful to give you a hand. They will also be able to lend some advice on what your car needs.

Yes, it is really advisable to ask for help from a knowledgeable person if you really want to do it your own. If you do it all by yourself and you don't have much idea on how to do it, you might end up making a mistake and then some parts might just be wasted coz you have to replace them if they are not properly installed.
