How good of a brand is Sony? Are they capable of everything other high end speakers are? or are they just marketing?

Good Marketing mainly. You should consider getting pioneers, kenwoods, or alpines depending on what you need. Those brands have always done me right.

I agree. Sony car entertainment products are overpriced for what they offer.

In our country, we don't have kenwoods or alpines and pioneers where a thing of the past, we had but that was a long time ago. So, we don't have a choice here but Sony is still believed to be the best brand when it comes to video but not much for the audio types. |

Well I guess I'm just a victim of marketing!
I always thought that Sony, although expensive, were good products. |

Well, I am definitely a fan of Sony products, just not car audio.

Sony is a quality manufacturer of audio equipment. The problem that I have with them is not the quality at all, it is the price. For some stuff they are not that bad but their car audio products have typically been more expensive than other brands. If you are really stuck on buying Sony, go for it, you won't get a bad product. What you will do, however, is pay too much for it.

sometimes you pay just for the name, not necessarily the quality... but you can also get good customer service - go by references, not ads!

I agree with Thumperfive, you are often just paying for the brands and not for the actual quility of the speakers.
Thanks

going by references is great advice. also, customer service is nothing worth ignoring. sometimes you'll never need anything at all from the company other than tht original product. other time though, you'll need something and will be glad that you bought from a company who takes care of their customers.

true - it's important to get decent help when you need it through customer service - if they just hang up on you or are worthless, was the cheaper price really worth it?
