I know this is pretty elementary but it's something that can save a life. Wires are always color coded according, so for a quick and easy tip, black means postive and red means negative usually. Red is usually the live wire so be careful to touch it if you don't have gloves on or the battery is still plugged in.

I have honestly seen people forget this.. and sparks fly from under their hood. its dangerous, and the knowledge is vital to know.

Since we are talking about electrical safety....
Be very careful when you are installing a battery as well. If you touch a screwdriver of wrench to both terminals it creates a circuit. Also, if you are holding a wrench and your wedding ring on the other hand touches the other terminal, another circuit. I have personally witnessed this happen and you can't get the ring off fast enough to avoid completely cooking your finger. It happens more often than people think....

yep, and watch your necklaces and loose clothing around a fan belt or any other moving parts. that's not a pretty sight either...... Shocked

Those are some of the good points to remember,
that is a situation where all jewelries (dangling or not) must be removed as you are dealing with tiny electronic parts... , this reminds me of
the electronic factories/companies in our place where the employees
are not allowed to wear any kind of jewelries and accessories when
they are on duty... so this must be the purpose of it.
